He is a member of the world-renowned Cepeda Family, one of Puerto Rico’s most distinguished Afro-Puerto Rican folkloric ensembles. In 1992, he revolutionized Latin music with the introduction of Afro-Rican Jazz, an innovative blend of traditional Puerto Rican roots, folk, dance, progressive jazz, and world music. He is widely credited with innovating and creating the jazz sub-genre: Afro-Rican Jazz.
Recognized for his contributions, he received an Honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music and had the Puerto Rico Heineken Jazz Festival dedicated in his honor. It deeply documents the genres while inspiring their contemporary evolution, blending jazz, hip hop, and more. It offers lifelong access to an online portal with documentaries, music, and more, enriching the user experience. Additionally, it provides educational resources for all levels, fostering an appreciation for the arts.
